March is National Women’s Month—Women Owned Businesses Continue to Achieve Excellence and Grow in Numbers
In 1987, Congress passed Public Law 100-9, which designated March as Women's History Month.
President Reagan issued the first proclamation for Women's History Month also in 1987.
Since 1995, every president has issued an annual proclamation.
· In 2023, 39.1% of all US businesses were owned by women, or about 14 million businesses.
· This is a 13.6% increase from 2019.
Women-owned businesses employ 12.2 million workers.
Women-owned businesses generate $2.7 trillion in revenue.
From 2019 to 2023, the number of women-owned businesses grew nearly double the rate of those owned by men.
