SBA OIG’s Report—Released Today—Government Contract Recommendations—Only 5 out of 166 Recommendations

The Good Numbers for SBA’s Office of Government Contracting and Business Development

Some good news in the midst of some uncertainty in the world of small business and government contracting. The SBA’s Office of Inspector General (SBA IG) issued a report effective today, March 3, 2025, that was written as of December 31, 2024. The SBA IG’s report demonstrates that as of December 31, 2024, there were 166 open OIG recommendations that remained open. Notably, the Office of Government Contracting and Business Development (GCBD), only had 3% of the open recommendations. In contrast, the Office of Capital Access had 56.6%. (Some recommendations may have been resolved.) The recommendations for GCBD had only 2 recommendations for the 8(a) Program and 3 recommendations for the HUBZone Program. These recommendations include internal SBA data control, communication, and reporting by SBA regarding 8(a) Participants, more counseling and field office work by SBA for 8(a) Participants, and HUBZone oversight on verification of HUBZone continuing eligibility. The GCBD was listed as Nos. 25, 26, 94, 95, 96, and can be found here: https://www.sba.gov/document/report-us-small-business-administration-office-inspector-general-open-recommendations
