SBA’s Size Standards Comment Count Corrects from 66,254 to 3,202

On September 10 this blog asked what was behind SBA’s comment count on its size standards proposed rule. The website said 66,254 submissions received and 761 published. The count has been corrected. It now reads 3,202 received and 2,731 published (and climbing).

The two words still mean what they meant. Received is everything SBA has taken in, published or not. Published is what anyone can actually read.

Here is the change on the size standards proposed rule, Docket SBA-2026-0199. On September 10 it showed 66,254 received and 761 published. On September 24 it shows 3,202 received and 2,731 published. The September 10 count was wrong by 63,052.

The ratio flipped. On September 10 there was 1 readable comment for every 87 the count claimed. Today 2,731 of 3,202 are published, or 85 percent. That leaves 471 received and not yet posted.

The methodology docket moved in the ordinary way over the same period. On September 10 it showed 602 received and 182 published. It now shows 1,299 received and 882 published. Same office, same subject, same two weeks. Only one of the two counts needed correcting.

SBA has not posted a correction notice. Docket SBA-2026-0199 contains two documents: the proposed rule published August 20 and the extension posted September 24. Neither addresses the count.

The September 10 post ended by offering to publish any explanation of the 66,254. The number was withdrawn instead.

Comments on both dockets are due November 20.
